Hello, I'm Ellie Geary, a visual artist from the East Midlands now based in Leeds (UK).
I make work about connection, emotional experience and perception. Moments from everyday life are expressed through natural forms and semi-abstract shapes that become metaphors for human interaction and feeling.
Shells, fossils, and boxes are curious containers that have weight, history and mystery. These objects have both an outside image and an internal existence, comparable to how we see and understand ourselves and others.
Sculptural pieces are created slowly using hand tools and environmentally-friendly woodstains then sealed with multiple layers of a strong, protective finish. Boxes have a practical function to hold items known only to the eventual owner which appeals to my appreciation of these containers as a metaphor for care, mystery and ongoing story.
